Vacations, Weddings, and Being Blessed.
I had to begin this post with this awesome picture of my daughter Olivia. I took this last week while out with my friend (and fellow photographer) Tiffany scoping out new places to take pictures. Isn't the location just gorgeous?? And what about the amazing Sierra Nevada's in the background? You'd be super surprised exactly where this is located - we both got a ton of gorgeous shots here. So fun!
My trip to Southern California is on the horizon (just 2 more weeks!), and I'm totally stoked for the seven sessions I have while I'm there. I'm doing a wide array of sessions. 8 month old, 1 month old, promotional shoot for an up-and-coming singer, two boudoirs, a 6 and 8 year old, and a 3 and 1 year old. I'm tired just writing that! So make sure and check back often the middle of June for lots of sneak peeks! In fact, I'll have my computer with me, which means I'll be doing tons of proofing while I'm in CA....might even post while I'm there.
In other good news, my very first wedding is NEXT FRIDAY! I did a location meeting with the bride this past Thursday. I'm looking very forward to the day, and am positive that not only will I get some gorgeous shots - but a lot of practice as well. This will be the first of four weddings I've booked this year. I'm also in the meeting phases with 4 other brides. Wow. I am so blessed to be considered by so many awesome woman as a photographer worthy to shoot their weddings. God is good, and answering my prayers for favor and opportunity. Please keep me in YOUR prayers as I step out into this new phase of my business. It's a tad daunting, but I am SO excited for this newest adventure.
Well, time for me to close. Thanks for checking in. I have two sessions before my trip to California, so I'll be posting those before the first week of June.

Third Grade Conversation
Photographing this girl was a total dream. She was adventurous, cooperative, and totally polite. We ran around a local park, scouting out some new little nooks to take pictures in. We talked about life as a 3rd grader, the pros and cons of having a little sister, and the insects that really scare us. It was a beautiful day, and I had a willing and beautiful model. These are two things that no photographer will ever complain about :) Thank you Miss Alyssa. I had a fabulous time with you!!

Catching up on Life!
This is about how I feel when I haven't posted for awhile. This also happens to be my overly dramatic daughter when she is upset with me for telling her no, or taking something away from her, or just generally upsetting her.
I've taken a sort of break from sessions until the beginning of June. My plate is overwhelmed with a ton of super important things, and I need to handle them all before taking on anything else in the photography field. Plus, I'll be attending an awesome workshop in Sacramento next Tuesday with a friend, and then the following week is my FIRST wedding!! Then, a week later - I'll be making the drive into Southern California, where I'll be in a wedding on the 13th of June! Surrounding this wedding, I have 7 sessions in the LA and Orange County areas - so the first and second week of June will be busy ones for me. That's why it was important for me to put a freeze on any further work this month and take care of other pending business around the house.
I took the kids out today to have a sort of "spring" session - but in true Reno fashion, the weather today was totally unpredictable and we ended up aborting it. Bummer. But the end of this week is supposed to warm into the 80's and I'm looking forward to attempting the session with my kids.
Check back soon, and I'll try and give a small update. Hope everyone is doing well, enjoying life, and having fun!

Happy Family
Meet Alyssa and Halie, and Anthony and Eli. Sisters. Brothers. and Cousins. I'm basically in love with each of these kids, and am privileged anytime I have the chance to photograph them. Photographers love to take pictures of people....but throw in extra beautiful children - and you have a photographers paradise! So, enjoy a few from our session today - and get used to these faces. I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot more of them!

Gobs and Gobs of Chubby Goodness!
I have the chance to photograph these two gorgeous babies for the entire first year of their life. Talk about lucky! It started when they were just a few weeks old. Today, I caught them just a day shy of 4 months old. Can you believe how much they've changed? I've had a chance to watch as they change, because we happen to also attend the same church. Our kids are in the same nursery - but having the chance to photograph these beautiful babes in just their diapers with their rolls in all their glory was more than I could handle. Jack will be a football player - easily. Tay, she may not be as big as her twin brother - but she definitely could hold her own. I'm going to be honest.....I could nibble on their thighs all day long :)
But I didn't. I just kept taking pictures, with a few breaks to hold them and all their chubby goodness. Here are a few from our session today. Included, is a photo of each baby when I saw them for their last session. My, how time flies!

Family of 4
We've been planning this session for what seems like an eternity - Reno weather is a bit unpredictable in the spring months. So we were going from 70 degrees and sunny, to 32 and snowing, back to 70 with some wind. As luck had it, the day we had planned for ended up being gorgeous. What a relief! 3 year old C was a total charmer, and 9 month old B was gorgeous and one of those "wise" babies - you know, the ones who check out the scene, and watch and listen and crack the occasional smile. We had a great time, and I am so blessed that they would choose to allow me to capture their beautiful family for them.

Falling in Love
Chad and Crystal met with my today in Reno for an engagement session. It was so good to finally meet them after weeks of communication and planning. They were as wonderful as I had imagined and totally down for anything!! This included laying down in some pretty questionable places. We had fun, even with the wind blowing and our toes freezing off. I am so stoked over this session. These few are only a small glimpse of the rest of the photos. Enjoy. I know I did.
....and seriously, how gorgeous is this last photo? Could. Die.

Little Reunion
Meet Danny. I had the great opportunity to photograph him as a tiny 6 pound newborn. We reunited 3 months later for a wonderful session. Aside from being super handsome. Danny flirted, smile, and charmed his way into my heart as I clicked away while he laid on my bed. So fun to see how much he's grown. What a little heartbreaker!

My Muse
So, my sister, is gorgeous. Which comes in really handy as a photographer. And I realize now how spoiled I was living so close to her. Having her around the corner to model for me - to allow my creative juices to flow. Now that I'm in Reno, I can't just call her up, and beg her to indulge in my obsession. Which is a burn out. So, imagine my joy having her here for 4 full days. I took advantage of her in every sense I could. Portrait, Boudoir, Engagement. I soaked as much beauty from her as I could before she had to head back to Southern California.
It was during this time that I made a discovery. My sister is my muse. She helps to inspire ideas. She makes me go wow. To see a whole new world through my lens. With her in front of the camera, I'm excited. It's funny, because before this, I would have assumed my kids would be my muses - but they move too quickly. A clear shot is pure luck. A clear shot in amazing light with a smile...that's a one in a million chance. But, my sister. She listens, she shares, she becomes a part of the creative process and allows me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. She sits still :)
I'm lucky. Because not only is my sister beautiful on the outside, but her inner beauty matches the exterior - which makes for one phenomenal woman.

Coming to Cali
This post serves as an announcement that I'm coming to Southern California From June 4th until the 16th-ish. I'll be booking sessions while I'm home - but they are filling up super fast. The cost is $300 for a session and CD of full-resolution images. This is $200 off my normal fee! If you are interested, please email me at mavossler@gmail.com to secure a spot on my calendar. I'll be in the LA and Orange County area during this time - so I can schedule sessions in both locations.
Looking forward to working with everyone this coming June!!!

College Graduate
Michelle is about a month away from graduating college. In fact, she goes to the same small Christian University in Newport Beach, California that my husband and I both met at. She also happened to grow up here in Reno and attended my Father-in-Law's church. We had a chance to run around Downtown Reno yesterday while the weather was absolutely amazing. Michelle is one of those girls, that is 100% real. There is a sincerity about her that is endearing and admirable. She's genuine, and beautiful, and totally relatable. I had such a great time running around, talking about life, and taking pictures in the midst of it all :)
But really, I love my job. A lot.

My Sweet Girl
Olivia has the patience of an angel.....sometimes. There are a few moments in the day where she will allow me to do what I want without a single complaint. Generally, this time is right after her nap. On a fairly regular basis, she gets up about 30 minutes before Lucas. I always sneak into her room with my camera in tow - and grab some shots while she's a full of smiles and giggles and has a sweet disposition. I guess you could say it's our bonding time.
oh, how I love her :)

Happy Birthday Miss Olivia
A year ago today, I gave birth to our beautiful daughter Olivia Victoria Vossler. What a most wonderful addition she has been to our life. It's hard to believe so much time has passed. It seems like just yesterday the doctor handed me this messy, squealy little girl and I was immediately in love. Nothing has changed - well, except my love has grown exponentially every single day since March 5th of 2008.
Happy Birthday Little Girl. I love you so much, and look forward to watching you grow this next year. I think year 2 will be even better than year 1 :)

Leaving Walmart today, Lucas spotted the fish. We went over for a look, and he was enamored with them. Talking to them and calling them Nemo. I had this idea. Why not get him one. I mean, all they do is swim in their bowl. He can feed them in the morning, and have a little pet. So, I grabbed a bowl, some food, and someone to help me get a fish. Only he wanted two. "One for me. One for Livvy". So we left with two fish. One for Lucas and one for Olivia.
He calls them "Boo Boo" and yells into their bowl and wants to feed them fish food every second and just loves his new friends. Who knew two little goldfish could elicit such joy from a 2 year old.....and his mom too :)

Capturing Beauty
Since embarking on this photography journey almost 2 years ago, I have fallen in love with many, many moments. Picking up a camera, in my opinion, really forces you to live in the moment. To experience little aspects of the day that you might miss. My camera doesn't leave my side. I'm constantly looking for little things throughout my day that captivate me, make me smile, or even the days that I'm struggling to get through (yes, I even take pictures of my kids screaming!) Outside my daily life, photography has allowed me to meet many different people. To learn about them. To make friendships, engage, and relate. I have this ability to capture beauty. Mine, yours, theirs. It's truly a gift, and there hasn't been a moment on this adventure that I've wanted out.
Miss Courtney modeled for me today. I wanted to get out and just shoot today. I called her mom, and we made a date. Courtney is one of those kids you can't help but love. And seriously, that face? Gorgeous. I felt lucky today. Lucky to do what I do. Lucky knowing that this is just the beginning. I haven't even scraped the surface of what I can learn, absorb, and achieve. So, not only am I doing something that I love. I will love it even more as each day passes.
I hope you are doing what you love. Whatever it is.

Celebrating Sweet Livvy
My sweet girl will be turning one on March 5th! It's so hard to believe that a year has gone by. I have been planning this cupcake session with her since I saw a similar one from Emily Loftus. It went so much better than I could have imagined. Her older brother Lucas barely stuck a finger in his first birthday cake. Olivia, she was a mad woman. Tearing into that cupcake like it could be taken from her at any moment. Here is to another wonderful year of celebrating Olivia Victoria Vossler. I can't wait :)

Back in Action!
I've been gone entirely too long. With our move from Southern California to Reno, Nevada - I have felt in somewhat of limbo. Since arriving here in October of 2008 - I've been trying to make some sense of my goals, as well as just trying to survive :)
With my new location has come a new logo, new website, new blog, new ideas, and LOTS of new sessions!!! It has also come with the desire to enter the wedding and engagement side of photography. Although there are major difference between shooting children and shooting a wedding - so to say that I have a lot of learning, practicing, and praying to do would be an understatement.
It feels good to be back. In honor of the new everything, I've posted a few of my favorite photos from the past 4.5 months. Enjoy!
♥, Melissa
